MCA's move to lodge a police report against the said 'seditious' leaflet spotted in Merlimau and allegedly produced by Malay rights pressure group Perkasa, does not disassociate the party group the group, said DAP.

Speaking to reporters after lodging their police report against the same leaflet today, DAP Merlimau by-election chief Tey Kok Kiew said that this is because MCA has previously been seen to be "friends" with Perkasa.

"We have seen photos of MCA leaders in rallies with Perkasa members in Selangor. They are close to Perkasa," he said.

The leaflet in question, which states that Chinese are traitors to the nation and bore Perkasa's logo, was distributed in residential areas in Merlimau starting Wednesday.

'Close relationship'

Malacca Perkasa was, however, the first to lodge a police report about the matter on Thursday to deny that it had distributed or produced the contentious leaflets.

"Perkasa has a track record of extremist behaviour...We hope it is not them either, but we leave it to the police to investigate," said Tey said.

He added that Perkasa's seemingly close relationship with BN coalition parties also led him to believe that group intends to campaign during polls.

If this is true, Perkasa is among several other NGOs which have arrived in Merlimau to campaign on behalf of the ruling coalition.

NONE This includes 1Malaysia NGO and Astivaaram Foundation, which is spearheaded by ousted MIC man and former Gerakan Anti-Samy Vellu (GAS) leader G Kumar Aaman who has professed his loyalty to BN.

Meanwhile, Election Commission chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the distribution of the leaflets ( left ) were wrong and that it is factually incorrect to say that the Chinese are traitors.

"We should not be slandering others... The police is investigating this matter," he said when met.
