A marketing manager from Kuala Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) was arrested by police this morning on charges of threatening to kill another member of the staff.

According to Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Mohd Adnan Abdullah, Wong Swee Leong was picked up at the KSSB office in Section 7, Shah Alam, Selangor at about 9.30am this morning.

“We received a report from a staff member of KSSB in mid-February alleging that the suspect (Wong) had threatened to kill him,” he said when contacted today.

Wong was previously accused of soliciting kickbacks from a sand mining contractor, who in a statutory declaration said that Wong asked for RM1 per tonne of sand in commission.

Kuala Semesta Sdn Bhd is a Selangor government-owned company set up to tender out sand mining contracts in an effort to legalise the industry.

The company was probed for corruption by the Selangor Competency Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) committee , and was given the all clear.

The statutory declaration implicating Wong was brought up by Kapar parliamentarian S Manickavasagam in his testimony.

Wong is Ronnie Liu’s friend?

Wong’s arrest this morning came to light when Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong, in a Twitter post, alleged that the marketing manager, an “aide” to Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu, was detained.

NONE “Breaking news: according to reliable sources from KSSB, Selangor exco’s aide Wong Swee Leong has been arrested this morning for threatening KSSB staff. More things will surface & the second episode of Selangor Sand Mining Scandal has just started... Ronnie Liu?” said Wee ( left ) on Twitter .

Contacted by Malaysiakini , Liu denied that Wong is his aide and was hazy about whether the man was even a staff member of KSSB.

“This is not the first time (Wee) is fabricating stories on Twitter . As a deputy minister, he should keep certain standards and not repeat things that are either half-true or untrue,” he said.

In a text message to Malaysiakini later, Wee clarified that he had meant that Wong is a “buddy” of Liu’s.
