A journalist asks Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim at a press conference about the Omega watch that his detractors claim had been handed over to the police as evidence of his involvement in a sex tryst with a sex worker.

NONE The next day, the nation’s deputy director of the police force announces they are currently seeking to ascertain the ownership of the Omega watch.

Put the above two incidents together and you have ‘clear and shocking new proof’ of a high-level conspiracy behind the latest sex scandal to dog PKR’s de facto leader and Permatang Pauh parliamentarian, says the opposition party.

Tongues started to wag after businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah claimed he had surrendered to the police a sex video that he claimed depicted Anwar having sex with a sex worker, as well as an Omega watch that Eskay claimed was proof that Anwar was in deed the one in the video.

It was claimed that Anwar had left the Omega watch in the hotel room after the tryst.

NONE Anwar and his wife - PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail - have both denied, however, that the watch had ever left their possession.

Referring to an incident on Sunday in which Anwar lost his cool after being queried about the watch, PKR vice-president N Surendran ( right ) said the “planted” question by a journalist was followed the very next day by the announcement by federal police CID deputy director Acryll Sani that the police were currently ascertaining the ownership of the watch.

In fact, said Surendran, the ownership of the Omega watch is “entirely” irrelevant to the investigation into the video scandal under Section 292 of the Penal Code relating to the possession or exhibition of obscene material .

“It is increasingly clear now that the Omega watch was included in the sex clip in order to lend credence to the false and scandalous allegation that Anwar Ibrahim is the person in the video,” said the lawyer.

azlan On the police’ subsequent focus on the watch while ignoring the many calls for the ‘Datuk T’ trio to be arrested for screening the sex video in violation of the laws, Surendran said “from the beginning of the sex video fiasco, the police have been deliberately making mischievous and tendentious statements which are intended to support the dirty political strategy of the BN.”

Acryll’s remarks yesterday a day after the issue was raised in the press conference in the midst of the Sarawak election campaign is “clear and shocking new proof that a high-level conspiracy is behind the ' Datuk T ' sex video has emerged”, said Surendran.

“In fact the ownership of the Omega watch is entirely irrelevant to the police investigation... The ownership of the Omega watch has nothing whatsoever to do with this (alleged) offence (under Section 292 of the Penal Code),” he added.

“Once again it is proven that the police leadership is biased in favour of the BN and a willing accesory to their underhand plotting.

“We call upon the police to carry out investigations fairly and professionally and to stop conspiring with the BN against Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat.

"The police must remember that their duty is to the rakyat of this country and not to the BN.”
