With the prosecution completing its submissions in the Sodomy II trial, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is maintaining that the case is a political conspiracy initiated to satisfy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

There is no basis for the prosecution to go on with the case, Anwar said, unless it is to satisfy their political masters.

"In Umno's pornography system, Najib and Rosmah will use it to say they are a good couple. Their strength derives on Anwar's morality being in disrepute and in question, and then they can win.

NONE "This is continuous, and maliciously done to defame me. I have maintained from the outset that Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and (Solicitor-General II) Datuk Yusof (Zainal Abiden) are being used as tools to strengthen the arguments," he said.

Anwar said the mainstream media controlled by Umno was vindictive of him in using the so-called sperm and seminal fluid (as mentioned) in court, and repeatedly said by Yusof ( right ), just to satisfy their political masters.

In presenting its evidence in court, the prosecution said semen and sperm were found by the chemist.

"However, this was 97 hours after the incident they claim (took place) and this was ignored by the prosecution, and not rebutted in this two-day proceeding. Scientifically, it is proven that no sperm will last after 72 hours in the freezer.

"In this case, the complainant (Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan) went to the hospital after two days and after the sample was retrieved, the investigating officer (DSP Jude Blacious Pereira) kept it for another two days - not in a freezer but in a drawer," he said.

Anwar hoped that this submission and evidence would not be completely ignored by the judge - unless he was politically directed to (ignore this).

"It (the charge) can only survive without any consideration for ethics, morality and respect for all laws," he said.

'Umno media out to create friction'

Asked to comment on PAS wanting to review its relationship in Pakatan Rakyat following the surfacing of the sex video tape, Anwar, who is also the PKR de facto leader, said it was only Umno that wanted to create clashes or friction between PAS and Pakatan Rakyat.

NONE "Umno has tried it for a long time because it cannot sustain its control or power to run this country. That is why it creates friction and is out to cause disunity in PR," he said.

Anwar said what PAS (secretary-general Mustafa Ali) said was that the party would await the results of the investigation (into the sex tape), but despite this, there were already doubts (as to the credibility of the witness).

Last Friday, Mustafa said PAS would only review Anwar's role in Pakatan when the police complete their investigations.

At the same time, he also raised the credibility of the "Datuk T" trio of businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim, who screened the sex tape to select members of the media at Carcosa Seri Negara on March 21.

Mustafa also said PAS remained committed to Pakatan.

His comments created some friction with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

However, in response, Mustafa told Azmin to open his mind and not to be plagued by what was reported in the mainstream media as it was out to create disunity in Pakatan.
