PAS Kota Raja parliamentarian Siti Mariah Mahmud said today 1,210 voters from the Sabak state constituency have been transferred to Sungai Panjang.

NONE "I went to the Election Commission to make a complaint... (after) our workers spotted that the number of voters in the latest electoral roll for Sabak had not increased despite new voters being registered.

"It took the Election Commission more than an hour to check this and they told us it is part of the electoral boundary review exercise, and to provide ease to voters," Siti Mariah ( right ) said.

However, the PAS MP said that some of those who have always voted in Sabak and have been transferred without their knowledge, claimed that they now have to vote in centres further away from their homes.

"The Sabak constituency even comes under a different parliamentary constituency from Sungai Panjang," she said.

Sungai Panjang, represented by former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, is one of the two state seats under the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, with the other being Sekinchan.

azlan Siti Mariah said the Election Commission told PAS to locate the 1,210 voters and inform them to apply to be transferred back to the Sabak constituency.

"What kind of machinery is able to do this?" she asked, adding that the party members have so far reached only 15 of the 1,210 voters.

Speaking at a press conference, Siti Mariah noted that this development was particularly worrying as the PAS' Sabak candidate in the 2008 general election, Sallehin Mokhyi, lost by a razor thin margin of 117 votes.

The PAS machinery, she said, has also spotted other irregularities - such as an unreasonable number of people registered at a single address, like in a small flat that cannot possibly accommodate that many.

However, for PAS to help clean up the roll has also been an effort because the EC does not want to reveal the full addresses, Siti Mariah added.

General election in July?

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who was also present, said other requirements also hindered the opposition parties from doing a thorough job in ensuring clean electoral rolls, even though this was the EC's job.

"To make an objection to the electoral roll, you need to pay RM10 per objection, and you must also show proof to support your claim or risk being fined RM200," Khalid said.

He also predicted that snap polls would be held in July, with Parliament dissolved on June 29, at the end of its coming session, since waiting longer would allow the opposition time to consolidate support.

"Non-Malay voters, particularly Chinese voters, cannot be swayed (to the BN) and Malay support for BN has reached its maximum, despite their efforts in playing up issues of Christianisation, the sex video, etc," he said.

Khalid also considers the announcements on the Budget being tabled in October and that Umno holding an election dry run in July mere "red herrings" to make the opposition complacent.

"There is also this thing about Najib's favourite number being 11, so that we would think the election would be in November," he said.
