Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo Lo' Mohd Ghazali was laid to rest at the Datuk Keramat Muslim cemetery in Kuala Lumpur about 11.10am today.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang led thousands of mourners in performing the solat jenazah at Masjid al-Akram, Datuk Keramat.

NONE In attendance were PKR leaders Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Pakatan Rakyat MPs and Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Jalil.

Also present were PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub, PKR deputy pr esident Azmin Ali and PAS Muslimat (women's wing) chief Siti Zailah Yusof.

The 54-year-old former PAS central committee member died at 10.13pm yesterday at Selayang Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

               

Lo' Lo', the daughter of former Perak mufti Mohd Ghazali Abdullah, had been suffering from lung cancer since late July 2009.

More than 2 ,000 people, including PAS supporters and Lo Lo's constituents, accompanied her casket to the cemetery.

NONE all of Masjid Al-Akram was jam packed with people who showed up to pay their last respects.

Lo Lo' had been an active figure in PAS Muslimat, once serving as its deputy president.

Since March 8, 2008, much of her attention was devoted to her constituency of Titiwangsa, which she won with a 1,972-vote majority against BN’s Aziz Jamaluddin Mohd Tahir.

Several Pakatan MPs today described Lo’ Lo’s passing as a great loss.

They said that her work remained unfinished, particularly her fight for the residents of Kampung Baru, which has been earmarked for commercial development under the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020.

Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Yusof said that among the last words of Lo’ Lo’ to PAS Muslimat was to continue the fight for Islam.

"She advised us to be patient, resilient and not to lose heart in our struggles, especially in defending the honour of Kampung Baru," said a teary eyed Siti Zailah.

PAS central committee member Kamaruddin Jaafar described Lo’ Lo’ as a principled leader and woman figure who dared to voice her views in championing the rights of the people.

"Her effort in the Titiwangsa constituency and her courage in solving the people's problems has made a big impact.

"Her passing is a big lost to PAS, Pakatan Rakyat and all Malaysians," Kamaruddin said.

PAS vice-president and Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar said not only have the people of Titiwangsa lost a great woman figure, but PAS and he himself have lost a friend who had been a source of motivation.

NONE "Her motherly attitude prompted her to memberi leteran (nag), but her leteran was a source of motivation to us to work harder for Malaysians.

"She was persistent and often goes down to the ground to serve her Titiwanga constituents and her passing is difficult to replace," Mahfuz ( left ) said.

In light of Lo Lo's passing, he said PAS and Pakatan representatives would share her duties among them to continue her work in the constituency.

According to the country’s election law, no by-election will be held for any constituency that becomes vacant three years after the first sitting of the Parliament or a state assembly.
