PAS central committee member Khalid Samad revealed today that the Kelantan government's 'invitation' for Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to 'debate' PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu was "only a preliminary enquiry".

NONE Reading out the email invitation sent to Khairy at a press conference at the PAS headquarters today, Khalid ( left ) said that it is apparent that the former was just "seeking the limelight" by crowing about the matter.

The Kelantan government representative Saifuddin Ibrahim's email says, a "casual dialogue" is "proposed to take place at the end of September, at 9pm, at Balai Islam, Kota Bharu ... if you agree we will send a formal invitation and working paper.

"If you have another date in mind, do let us know... God willing, we are working to get Mohamad Sabu as the other participant," Saifuddin said.

Khalid claimed the email was sent to the Umno Youth chief on Sept 4 and forwarded to the former on Sept 7.

Stirring up storm in teacup

"(Khairy) made out as if it is fixed, but it was just an enquiry. This is the political ploy of someone who craves the limelight.

"This is the future ex-Umno Youth chief's way of looking for a lifeline to retain his post," Khalid said cuttingly.

NONE Khairy ( right ) had on Monday labelled Mohamad a "eunuch" for not wanting to debate with the youth chief.

Mohamad said it was more "fitting" for Khairy to face PAS Youth chief Nasruddin Hasan.

PAS Youth has sent a formal invitation to Khairy, but the latter said that he is only interested in facing the PAS deputy president.

Mohamad, on the other hand, said he would only debate Umno deputy president and deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin.

This has received the consent of the PAS central leadership, which is expected to send a formal invitation to Muhyiddin by the end of the week.
