Johor PAS Youth yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Segamat police chief urging the force to take action against a group of youths on motorcycles who have been inciting violence at the party's recent events.

NONE According to its chief Suhaizan Kaiat ( left ), the memorandum was received by the Segamat deputy police chief Anuar Ismail.

"We urge the Segamat police chief to conduct an investigation regarding the immoral activities of this group, including the mastermind of the group who has given them assurance that no action will be taken.

"(We also demand) that stern action be taken on this group to prevent such incidents from recurring," the memorandum read, urging also that such action be taken immediately.

In the memorandum, PAS said that a group of youths on motorcycles had caused "disruption and provocation" leading to injuries.

Contacted today, Suhaizan said that the group, which first emerged during the Tenang by-election, had caused disruptions during ceramah events by PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu in Segamat on Oct 7 and 10.

"On Oct 7, (PAS member) Shahril Sulaiman sustained injuries after being hit with a blunt object," he said of a scuffle at Dataran Ciku Mala, Labis.

He added police was present at the event, which took place in private premises, but "did not do much".

"They were also at a ceramah on Oct 11, but in smaller numbers as there was a stronger police presence," he said.

'Thuggish behaviour'

Suhaizan added that during the Tenang by-election "hundreds" of youths on motorcycles surrounded the venues of their campaign events and "surrounded the premises and revved their engines in a threatening manner".

In the memorandum, PAS said that the group also hurled verbal abuse to those attending the events and even threw stones in the direction of the audience.

NONE "This thuggish behaviour has been shown time and time again but there has not been any investigation or any serious action taken to stop the movements of this immoral lot," the memorandum read.

Several other incidents of scuffles were reported in Negri Sembilan, when groups tried to stop Mohamad ( right ), from speaking.

Yesterday, about kilogramme worth of one-inch nails were found under vehicles along the 500 metre road to the ceramah site, with PAS warning participants to check their tyres before leaving to avoid punctures.

Mohamad has been under fire for allegedly saying in a speech that historical figure Mat Indera who led the 1950 Bukit Kepong police station insurgency is a freedom fighter.

Mohamad has been charged for criminal defamation over his speech.
