PKR cannot oppose the restrictions the police imposed on the rally in front of the Kuala Lumpur court complex tomorrow as they were agreed to by PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, police said today.

In a posting in its official Facebook page, the police said the list of restrictions were given to Shamsul Iskandar at a meeting with the Sentul district police chief on Friday.

"(PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali cannot reject the restrictions on PKR's rally at the court car park on Jan 9.

“The list was handed to PKR Youth chief Shamsul... by the Sentul police chief, and he acknowleged receipt. He did not make any objections," says the posting.

Contrary to Azmin’s claim, police adde, the same restrictions were discussed between the former and inspector-general of police Ismail Omar.

The Gombak MP had yesterday said PKR will not adhere to the 10 restrictions, including bans on banners, loudhailers and speeches, as it was not discussed when he met Ismail.

10 conditions

In an unprecedented move, the police yesterday announced that it would allow supporters of PKR de facto leader to hold a rally in front of the Jalan Duta court complex.

This follows a meeting between police top brass and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

Hours after this meeting, the police announced that 10 conditions must be followed. The conditions are as follows:

  • There will be no usage of pamphlet or banners with the tagline ' Bebaskan Anwar 901 ' (Release Anwar 901) or Bebaskan Anwar (Release Anwar),
  • No use of loudhailers allowed with the exception of two for the purpose of controlling the crowd,
  • There will be no public speeches,
  • Participants are not allowed to make noise and disrupt court proceedings,
  • The gathering area which is allowed is the left parking area from the main road, and participants are not allowed to go out of the stipulated area,
  • If it is filled up then the others coming should disperse,
  • Organisers should ensure participants do not bring any weapons and they give full cooperation to the police,
  • The crowd should disperse an hour after the verdict,
  • They should comply with the directives issued by the police from time to time to ensure a peaceful assembly, and
  • Participants cannot destroy public property in the area.
