The large allocation to remedy the perception of crime in Budget 2013 is not merely for public relations, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.

azlan The money will also be used to redeploy security personnel to the streets, Hishammuddin told reporters at the Parliament lobby today. 

"We will give the breakdown as it is not just about handling perception, but about creating omnipresence on the ground," he said. 

"(This includes the) cost of management, cost of deployment of Bukit Aman employees to the streets and the redeployment of people from the border who are working with the Armed Forces."

Hishamm uddin said any claim that the allocation is only for managing perception is out to "confuse the public and is purposely raised (for this purpose)".

"We have nothing to hide. Allocations given during the first phase in the Government Transformation Programme were clearly not enough," he said.

had reported that RM272.54 million is provided under the Home Ministry's budget as a one-off payment to 'improve the safety perception index' under the National Key Results Area on combating crime, according to the Federal Expenditure Estimate 2013.
