A Malaysian who was stopped from entering Taiwan for allegedly having been convicted of human-trafficking is seeking the government’s help to clear her name of a crime she says she has never been convicted of.

In separate letters to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Foreign Affairs Minister Anifah Aman today, Hooi Mei Theng urged the ministers to help her lift the 10-year ban imposed on her by the Taiwanese government.

"I don't know why my name is on the blacklist as I have never been convicted of any crime in Malaysia let alone overseas. I am urging you to help me get my name off the blacklist of international enforcement agencies," she said.

Hooi, who spoke to reporters at the Parliament lobby this morning, was already issued a letter of good conduct by the secretary-general of foreign affairs on Oct 18.

However, despite the letter of good conduct, her lawyer Eric Tan said that checks with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia found that the ban is still in place.
