SABAH Those who have defected from Umno have no chance to advance their political career because the  people support the struggles of the party and not individuals, BN chief Najib Abdul Razak has claimed.

NONE Speaking in Kuala Penyu this afternoon, he said this is why he is confident that Beaufort incumbent MP Lajim Ukin will tank in his bid to defend the seats of Beaufort and Klias on a PKR ticket in the 13th general election.

"... Onn Jaafar was Umno founder but he left as he disagreed with Umno policies. He formed Parti Negara and stood in the election,” said Najib.

"But people are loyal to Umno, have Umno souls. He was a respected man but Umno is greater than any individual. Lajim can't be greater than Datuk Onn. He has left the party but you are still with it."

azlan Najib, speaking to some 5,000 people all dressed in BN t-shirts, was referring to Lajim (left) , a former federal deputy minister who has defected from Umno to become Pakatan Rakyat - friendly.

He is contesting the Beaufort parliamentary seat against BN's Azizah Mohd Dun.

Najib also condemned Pakatan's promise to award 20 percent oil royalty for Sabah’s production, if it forms the next federal government.

He said the caretaker BN-led government had already been exploring marginal oil fields to raise Sabah oil production.

NONE "If the royalty is 20 percent, what will happen? There will be no incentive (to explore) more and when this happens the goose which lays the golden eggs will not be laying any more golden eggs.

"Under the current agreement, the goose is healthy and will lay many more golden eggs."

Under the current agreement, Sabah receives five percent oil royalty.

State-sponsored BN campaign

Although the event was organised by state foundation Yayasan Sabah, it was unmistakably a BN election campaign event.

NONE Kuala Penyu Municipal Council facilities, including a community hall, chairs and trucks, were used.

"This is a Yayasan Sabah event, but we are assisting them," Kuala Penyu municipal council executive officer Mohd Fazlee Lee Abdullah, who was dressed in a BN shirt and cap, told Malaysiakini .

Najib was in town to launch Yayasan Sabah's roadshow and the Sungai Sipitong bridge.

Yayasan Sabah board of trustees chairperson and Sabah BN chief Musa Aman in his speech said that people of Beaufort should support Najib as it was he who had approved the allocation for the bridge.

"Lajim may have suggested the idea to me, but who asked (former PM) Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the bridge? It was me," Musa said.

Najib also accepted an application for Umno membership from Lajim's brother Ramli, who joined Umno from PKR with 200 others.
