Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) has decided to slash the number of tents on Padang Merbok by half in what looks to be an attempt to compromise with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

The movement's leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin told Malaysiakini that 40 tents have been taken down after the group was served a notice at 10am to vacate the area by noon.

As of 1.30pm, DBKL has not taken any action against the group, whom are still maintaining 50 tents.

Badrul Hisham said that SAMM is still discussing about what to do next.

"We'll do things a thing at a time. Our problem is not with DBKL, but with the Election Commission. They must step down," he said.

About 30 DBKL personnel are keeping watch in the area.

According to SAMM's registry, 246 people, mostly youths and students, camped on the field following the Black 505 rally.

The occupation of Padang Merbok is an extension of the rally, aimed at calling on the seven member Election Commission to resign.

DBKL said that they are occupying the field illegal because they have not obtained permission from the mayor to do so.
