Dog trainer Maznah Mohd Yusof will be sent to the Segamat police headquarters in the morning as part of investigations against her on the video she posted online featuring dogs and a Hari Raya greeting.

NONE According to her legal counsel N Surendran ( left ) she will, however, be spending the night at the Commercial Crimes Department lock up in Bukit Perdana, Kuala Lumpur.

Surendran said police informed him that she will be sent to the Johor town as the police report they are investigating was lodged there.

She is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code which deals with causing disharmony in relations to religion and Section 4 of the Sedition Act.

"We expect the police to apply for a remand tomorrow morning and we are arranging legal counsel for her there," he said when contacted at around midnight.

Surendran, who spoke to Malaysiakini after managing to interview Maznah for about 15 minutes added that his client was not allowed access to legal counsel before that.

azlan He said his co-counsel Latheefa Koya was not allowed to accompany Maznah when she was questioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police special branch earlier.

"It was an illegal interrogation and we will bring this matter of denial to legal representation to the Bar Council," Surendran said.

Latheefa said that Maznah, who goes by the nickname Chetz, was arrested at about 3pm today in Bukit Beruntung and brought to Bukit Perdana at around 5pm.

She said that Maznah was questioned until around 7.30pm, but she is not sure if the questioning continued after the break fast meal.

Lawyer: Maznah’s arrest purely to save DPM’s face

The lawyers say that Maznah is "very calm but hopes that the ordeal will end soon".

"She also asked us to thank everyone throughout the country who have expressed outrage (over her arrest) and support for her," Surendran said.

The lawyer, who is also PKR vice-president, maintains his client's innocence and blames the arrest on "politics".

NONE He said the swift action was to "save (deputy prime minister) Muhyiddin (Yassin)'s face" after the latter hit out at non-Muslims for allegedly insulting Islam in the video, "without realising that (the video-maker) is a Muslim".

"This is a baseless prosecution of a young lady in the month of Ramadan for no other crime than loving animals," he said.

Maznah, 38, came under fire for a video Hari Raya greeting featuring her three dogs.

The video, first posted three years ago, also features the takbir raya - a Muslim call for prayer specific for Hari Raya - and shows her cleaning herself and her dogs.

Several pro-establishment bloggers have interpreted this to be mocking the ablution process and Islam.

Maznah, however, has denied the claim and stressed that she had intended to show that cleanliness also applies to dogs.
