The late filmmaker Yasmin Ahmad's memory will continue to live on not only through her work, but also through a museum in Ipoh, Perak where her friends hope to preserve her legacy.  

Two of her iconic films - Sepet and Gubra - were filmed in Ipoh.

According to her friend and longtime colleague, Jovian Lee, the museum will be designed by prominent architect Ng Sek San and will be located near Ng's boutique hotel Sekeping Kong Heng.

“It will be on three staircases of a former bank in Ipoh, but it has not been done as we don't have the money to set it up yet,” he said.

Speaking a forum to discuss her works in Kuala Lumpur, he said that the museum will be funded by the Yasmin Ahmad Trust Fund, which is also in the works, to commemorate her “great generosity”.

Kelab Seni Filem Malaysia president Wong Tuck Cheong ( photo, in grey t-shirt ) said that the fund could carry on Yasmin's efforts to support young filmmakers in Malaysia.

“She was an inspiration to young filmmakers and she would give them money to make films, too,” he said.

Yasmin is most fondly remembered for being the person behind the television commercials commemorating National Day and other major celebrations, mostly commissioned by national petroleum company Petronas.
