PAS party elections committee chairperson Asmuni Awi and his committee yesterday tendered their resignation over a "technical glitch" that resulted in a postponement of part of the election.

However, the party leadership rejected the resignation and accepted their apology over the matter, said party secretary-general Mustafa Ali.

The polls for the central committee was halted upon discovery of a problem with the ballots, and resumed at 9am today once the issue was resolved.

PAS election committee chief Asmudi Awi 1 Addressing the delegation at the muktamar at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam today, Asmuni ( left ) said the committee members tendered their resignation "immediately after the mistake was found".

"We felt that we had failed to perform our duties as hoped for by the delegation and leadership," he said.

"We would like to affirm that we have taken various measures needed to ensure that such mistakes will not happen again."

Although not explaining what the glitch was, he said the committee chose to halt the polls immediately yesterday.

The  hitch, however, did not affect the deputy president and vice-president polls.

pas secretary general mustafa ali 2 Meanwhile, Mustafa ( left ) told the plenary that the leadership rejected the resignation as "it is human to err".

He pointed out that what was key is that Asmuni and his team admitted their fault immediately.

"This is something we have never seen in any other (party's) election committee be it in Umno or even the Election Commission," he said.

However, some party delegates did not view the error so kindly.

"We support (Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections) Bersih, hold 'blackout' (rallies) against the Election Commission but our polls also has issues," Johor delegate Firdaus Masood lamented during debates.

The committee polls concluded at 10.30am and the full results are expected later today.
