Selangor assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh has apparently received a death threat following an online post which alleged that she had made an insensitive remark regarding a pregnant woman in a photograph circulating on social network.

            

“I first came to know (about the post) on Saturday morning when someone sent it to me that (post). I instantly rebutted it on Twitter and Facebook .

“I never said it (the remark on a pregnant woman). It is a dangerous game they are playing to create racial hatred. One guy on 'Anti Semua Salah Umno' Facebook page even called for me to be killed.

“It's very scary. Police investigated (Pandan MP) Rafizi Ramli based on a fake email and racial hatred is being created based on fake quotes. When will they stop playing games?” she asked in a text-message to Malaysiakini .

She was referring to the post, which appeared on Facebook page 'Anti Semua Salah Umno', in which user Ben Firdaus last Saturday said: “Jom cari hannah ni... bunuh dia." (Let's look for this Hannah... kill her.)

The Facebook post featured a photograph, which was already circulating online, of a pregnant tudung-clad woman sitting on the floor of a public transportation vehicle because there were no available seats, as well as a quote attributed to Yeoh.

Rafizi had last week lodged a police report against four bloggers who allegedly circulated an e-mail accusing him of discussing placing explosives in the city on New Year's Eve.

Mother of two

Yeoh, who is also Subang Jaya assemblyperson and mother of two young children, was alleged to have commented that sitting cross-legged is actually good for pregnant women.

“Oi, Hannah! You can't possibly make this ‘stupid as hell’ statement just because you want to champion your race! Do you have brains?

“Just imagine if the pregnant woman was Chinese and the ones sitting in the seats are Malays. Would Hannah Yeoh make such a stupid statement?” the 'Anti Semua Salah Umno' page administrator wrote in Bahasa Malaysia.

Yeoh said she is mulling legal action, but must first root out the individual who had first alleged that she had said such a thing.

“(This is) beyond imagination,” she said.

She lodged a report at the USJ8 police station earlier today.

Yeoh is also alleged by bloggers, who are part of Umno Youth's Unit Media Baru, as having called for the dissolution of the Selangor Islamic Affairs Council.

The post, which she denies, was mass circulated within minutes on Twitter , including by the Unit Media Baru's official Twitter account.

Malaysiakini has contacted Facebook user Ben Firdaus and is awaiting his reply.
