Selangor Umno will lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this week over its suspicion that the Selangor government sold state land to fund Pakatan Rakyat's 13th general election campaign.

Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar said this followed revelation to the party that a large tract of land was sold for half of what it was worth in April 2013, after the Selangor legislative assembly was dissolved.

Noh told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday that the sale contravened the Selangor constitution given that a caretaker government cannot sign such deals.

"This could be abuse of power on the part of the Selangor government, particularly on the part of the menteri besar, or even corruption.

"Was there under-the-table money paid? We don't know this. Maybe the money (on the sale of the land) was used to fund the campaign in general election," he said.

Full lump sum payment

Selangor sold 1,172 acres of land in Kuala Langat to Tropicana Corp Bhd for RM844 million in April 2013, or the equivalent of RM17 per square feet (psf).

Tropicana last month sold 308.72 acres of that land to Eco World Bhd for RM470.674 million, or RM35psf, which works out to double of what Selangor sold it for.

Following the sale of this plot to Eco World, the Selangor government is now asking Tropicana for the full lump sum payment of RM844 million, and not the deferred payment of RM1.7 billion.
