PKR rep's aides probed over 'kangkung' stunt
Police want to quiz the aides of PKR state assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon over a kangkung flash mob, where the vegetable was stuffed into an effigy of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Police want to quiz the aides of PKR state assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon over a kangkung flash mob, where the vegetable was stuffed into an effigy of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
In a letter to the Machang Bubuk rep, the police said they want to record statements from Ho Leng Hong, Tan Xin Ying and Andrew Chin.
The case has been classified as criminal defamation and is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
When contacted, Lee ( right ), who confirmed that he had received the letter, said the police had called him to verify whether the three were his staff.
“Ho is Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) councillor while Tan and Andrew are my staff members,” said Lee.
“The police said they are calling them to assist in the investigation,” he said.
Although promising that he would cooperate with the police on the matter, Lee however believes it was “unnecessary” as he, a friend and a staff member had given their respective statements to the police in January.
“As of today, almost all the staff members in my office had been called by the police,” he said.
Lee added that he and his staff members will be discussing with his lawyer on the next action to be taken.
“As my staff members are quite busy, I hope the police will give them some time before they record their statements,” he said.
The flash mob organised on Jan 15, saw a handful of protesters placing about 10kg of kangkung in the mouth of an effigy of Najib.
The flash mob, said Lee, was designed to raise public awareness on government policies which led to an increase in the prices of many essential goods.
