After DAP criticised the Kelantan government for pushing ahead with the special sitting on hudud bill, DAP’s rival MCA has also lashed out at the state government on the matter.

Wanita MCA chairperson Heng Seai Kie said the Kelantan state government had remained obsessed on implementing hudud law while neglecting the severity of the situation in Kelantan which is enduring its worst flood disaster.

“Despite the Kelantan flood situation worsening each day, Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob has insisted that the state government will not be deterred from holding its special sitting on the hudud bill.

“The PAS-led government ignores the plight of thousands of evacuees who have been forced to abandon their doomed houses and seek shelter at evacuation centres,” she said in a statement.

In a Bernama tweet today, the number of flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Perak had risen to 103,413 people, an increase of 9,395 victims from last night.

Meanwhile, Heng stressed that the Kelantan government should immediately carry out assistance and disaster relief.

“It has failed its basic responsibility of aiding people to evacuate by focusing on convening the special state assembly sitting merely to get formal approval from the state legislature to formally table the two Private Member’s Bills in the Dewan Rakyat next year,” she said.

DAP Youth yesterday said that the Kelantan government should focus its efforts in addressing worsening floods in the state instead of pushing ahead with its emergency legislative assembly sitting to enable hudud in Kelantan,

Youth chief Teo Kok Seong said Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and his administration should focus all time, effort and resources to assist flood victims .

“He should not be saying so much about something which clearly deviates from the Pakatan common consensus,” Teo said in a statement.

The Kelantan government will hold a special state assembly sitting on Monday to speed up hudud implementation in the state.

Among its agenda is to table an amendment on the Syariah Criminal Laws Act II 1993 (Amended 2014).

Ahmad Yakob had said that the amendment was part of the procedure by the state government, before tabling Private Member’s Bills in Parliament to seek approval for Kelantan to enforce hudud.
