DAP and PAS may call themselves allies but the two parties have not been able to sit at the same table for several months now as they are engaged in repeated quarrels.
 
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has appealed for ceasefire between the two, expressing hope that they will attend a Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting before the final Sodomy II judgment, where he faces the possibility of jail, on Feb 10.
 
However, his call merely received lukewarm response as the feuding parties has set conditions for the meeting which has not convened for more than four months.
 
A Sin Chew Daily report today quoted an unnamed PAS leader saying that the party looked forward to the Pakatan leadership council meeting and will be represented by PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali.
 
However, the PAS leader added that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng ( left ) must apologise to Mustafa during the meeting for calling him "dishonest".
 
Lim had said that PAS leaders were "dishonest" by claiming that DAP did not consult them when pursuing local government elections in Penang.
 
Mustafa had used DAP's push for local government election as example of the party acting unilaterally and in the same vein PAS should be allowed to implement hudud in Kelantan.
 
Responding to this, DAP national organising chairperson Anthony Loke in a statement today said Mustafa will get no apology from Lim.
 
"I would like to address that the question of Lim apologising to Mustafa does not arise whatsoever. DAP will not and have not bent to pressure from any quarter," he said.
 
DAP wants Hadi to attend
 
Loke also reiterated Lim's statement that PAS was informed of DAP's plan to push for local election in Penang and PAS at that time did not voice objections and therefore no apology was forthcoming.
 
DAP too, set its condition for attending the Pakatan leadership council meeting, that being PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( right ) must also be there.
 
"On the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting proposed by Anwar to be held before Feb 10, DAP gives its commitment to attend the meting if PAS also gives its commitment that the PAS president will attend the meeting," said Loke.
 
DAP has been adamant that Hadi should attend such meetings after he overruled Pakatan's decision on the Selangor menteri besar crisis, which were agreed by his subordinates whom he sent in his place.
 
However, Hadi has refused to attend the meeting, stating that it was up to him to turn up or not.
 
With exactly a week left to Anwar's judgment at the Federal Court, the opposition leader who has been instrumental in holding Pakatan together appear to have a stalemate on his hands.
 
For now, Anwar ( left ) is believed to be trying to mend the rift by meeting Mustafa today.
 
However, the meeting is far from a peace negotiation, as Loke confirmed to Malaysiakini that DAP is not involved in the meeting.
 
Whether Pakatan can come together before Anwar's judgment will depend on the PKR's de facto leader's ability to get concession from either side in the next seven days.
