Johor Umno will give their full support to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said menteri besar and state party chief Khaled Nordin.

"These are not just sweet words [...] but we will really work together with you (Zahid) to strengthen Umno," he said at the Kota Tinggi Umno division meeting today.

Khaled's remarks comes a month after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak replaced his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin with Zahid in a cabinet reshuffle.

The menteri besar has rallied Johor Umno behind Muhyiddin, while at the same time calling for party members to remain calm, respectful, and continue to support Najib.

In his speech today, Khaled reiterated a previous statement and urged delegates not to be "yes-men".

"There is no way Umno could have fought for independence if it was just (full of) yes-men," he said.

Instead, he said, Umno must be mature and open-minded if it wants to move forward.

This, Khaled said, would make the party strong from the bottom up.

"And when Umno is strong, we can rely on Zahid to carry out his duties without any doubts," he added.
