Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee has denied talk of Umno members joining the Bersih 4 rally this weekend.
"Umno members will not be joining them, the rally will not bring any benefit to the people, especially the city dwellers.
"The claim is nonsense, unfounded, and malicious with intent to smear the good name of Umno members, especially in Kuala Lumpur," Syed Ali wrote in his blog today.
He added that the mass rally had a tendency of ending up as a violent mess, and would not be "Bersih" (clean) at all.
He also questioned why the rally was not being held somewhere else.
"If they really want to have a clean rally, why not do it in Selangor or Penang? Why target the capital Kuala Lumpur?" Syed Ali asked.
The Bersih 4 rally will be held this Saturday, with the central aim being to pressure Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to quit office.
The organisers plan to carry the protest over onto Sunday, with participants camping on the streets overnight .
Besides Kuala Lumpur, Bersih 4 protests are also planned in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak.
