Minister: No-confidence vote not happening
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said has said the vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will not take place.
Azalina, who oversees parliamentary affairs, argued that the Malaysian Parliament is different from those in other countries.
"We don't work like that. In Malaysia, cannot vote like that.
"You have to get majority support (for the vote), and the majority now is with the prime minister," she told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
Azalina was asked on the possibility of a move to oust Najib ( photo ) through vote of no-confidence in the upcoming Parliament sitting, which commences on Oct 18.
The opposition had mulled on no-confidence vote against Najib amidst 1MDB fiasco and the RM2.6 billion donation that he received.
They invited former deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin to join force in the august House to remove Najib, but this was turned down by the Umno deputy president.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad urged the opposition to find a formula which would see BN remain in power without Najib.
