Here are the key headlines from yesterday you may have missed, in brief.

Police confirm IS behind Puchong blast

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the grenade attack on Movida bar in Puchong on June 28 was masterminded by someone linked to the IS.

Fifteen individuals have been arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), with two being former low-ranking police personnel.

PKR says the fact that police had initially ruled out terrorism and suspected the attack to be a gang-related crime shows the authorities are ill-prepared for a terrorist attack.

Meanwhile, Khalid proposes a centralised entertainment hub so that police can better protect such an area from further attacks.

Shafie quits Umno, Pagoh Umno vice-chief resigns

Suspended Umno vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal announced, at a rally at his house in Tawau, Sabah, that was attended by more than a thousand supporters, that he is quitting the party.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor accepts Shafie's resignation.

This comes as Pagoh Umno vice-chief Shahruddin Md Salleh quits his position at the division level, citing dissatisfaction with the Umno supreme council, following Pagoh chief Muhyiddin Yassin's sacking.

Penang exco says CM can stay, Rahman disagrees

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng need not resign or take leave after being charged with corruption last week because the state executive council has confidence in his ability to function as CM, the council decided.

However, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Lim can put pressure on witnesses if he remains as CM, and that staying in the position is hypocritical.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim warns that Lim's charging might not be the last involving those against BN, including former Umno members.

Other Kinibites

Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) lodged a police report against Singapore comedian Fakkah Fuzz for allegedly likening the prime minister to a thief in a joke.

Police deny advising against the interfaith buka puasa event hosted by Church of Assumption of Petaling Jaya last weekend, nor was there a police report against the event.

Looking ahead

The 76-year-old author remanded for posting an insulting picture of the PM in a WhatsApp group chat is due to be released today.
