PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said his call for an opposition ceasefire is his own personal view.

He said he issued the media statement after opposition parties continued to attack PAS, by "falsely accusing" it of being in cahoots with BN.

"It is my view. I issued the statement in my own name.

"(My views) do not contravene party principles and concept because Tok Guru said they (the opposition parties) often attack PAS and this should be stopped," Tuan Ibrahim told Malaysiakini yesterday.

He spoke on the sidelines of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri event for Islamic NGOs in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Tuan Ibrahim last week suggested an opposition ceasefire so they can use the bullets to shoot at common enemies like Umno. The proposal was welcomed by the opposition, except PAS splinter party Amanah, which remained cautious over it.

"We may not be in Pakatan Harapan, but PAS is the third bloc that could strengthen the opposition bloc," he said.

Asked about meetings with PKR to work out how to work together, Tuan Ibrahim said: "We have a relationship with PKR, but we have yet to meet on this matter. There has not been a single meeting to date," he said.

Commenting further, Tuan Ibrahim said Amanah should not misinterpret what was said to mean PAS would join Pakatan Harapan.

He added that PAS is not with BN and the opposition should unite to topple BN.

“We do not want to enter into Pakatan Harapan. We are in the opposition bloc, so do not say that we are with BN.

“Although we are not in Pakatan, PAS would be the third bloc to strengthen the opposition political bloc,” he said.

Former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the call for a truce, while former deputy prime minister and former Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin echoed calls for a ceasefire and to focus on the opposition's efforts to fight BN.
