SRC's unaccounted billions under spotlight

Switzerland's Office of the Attorney-General said US$800 million (RM3.2 billion) was misappropriated from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International and this was covered up through a Ponzi scheme.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he failed to convince the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to sack Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over the 1MDB scandal.

In a separate development, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized RM53 million in cash after arresting a director and his deputy of a Sabah-based utility company for alleged graft.

Opposition top guns to figure out PAS

Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malasia (Bersatu) president, met with jailed opposition de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim at the Kuala Lumpur High Court as a goodwill gesture.

Anwar also managed to get some words past the prison guards, stating that Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu will negotiate with PAS to strengthen the opposition.

Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said as of now, the party intends to defend all of its traditional seats, despite Muhyiddin's appeal for PAS to make way for Bersatu in seats won by Umno.

PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said PAS should not be sidelined in negotiations for one-on-one contest against BN in the next general election but noted that Pakatan Harapan may need to consider other strategies if it fails.

In another development, Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong said he believes the 14th general election will be held in nine months' time, which will put it some time in the middle of next year.

Bersih ramps up efforts

Bersih chief Maria Chin Abdullah said the electoral reform group plans to take the Election Commission to court to temporarily halt the redelineation process on grounds that the commission had provided insufficient information for the exercise.

Maria also issued a letter of demand to Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos for accusing the movement of being linked to the Islamic State - which Jamal tore up and flushed the document down the toilet, in front of the media.

Meanwhile, MCA Wanita chief Heng Seai Kie urged the police to investigate Jamal's claim but deputy home minister Nur Jazlan prefers that the police ignore Jamal, calling the claim "politically motivated".

Police have detained a 26-year-old man in Kelantan for allegedly making offensive remarks against the daughter of Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Utusan Malaysia agreed to pay RM50,000 and issue a statement of regret to settle the defamation suit brought by jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, whom the newspaper accused of being involved in the Lahad Datu incursion by terrorists.

The Australian government said it won't bail out nine of its citizens detained in Malaysia for stripping down to their Malaysian flag underpants during the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit last Sunday.

The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department launched an app for Muslims to report syariah offences, including uploading pictures.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor will be attending the World Muslim Leadership Forum.
