Selangor BN assemblypersons today raised placards stating they would not hold a walkout, soon after Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali tabled the state's budget in the legislative assembly in Shah Alam.

Pictures of the incident, published by Sinar Harian, showed the BN assemblypersons held placards which read: "Tak Keluar! Kami Hormat Dewan and Mandat Rakyat" ('No walkout! We respect the House and people's mandate')

This is a reference to the highly-criticised opposition walkout at the Dewan Rakyat while Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak tabled the 2017 federal budget on Oct 21.

The daily reported those holding the placards included Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan (BN-Batang Kali), Johan Abdul Aziz (BN-Semenyih), Shahrum Mohd Sharif (BN-Dengkil) and Halimaton Saadiah Bohan (BN-Kota Damansara).

"We (BN representatives) respect the state legislative assembly sitting and the mandate given to us by voters to represent them.

"We are sincere in performing our duties, so we stayed to hear the entire budget speech so we can debate it later.

"There are parts in the budget we do not agree with but a walkout over this would have been wrong," Mat Nadzari reportedly said.

The federal opposition lead by PKR's Permatang Pauh MP Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said they walked out midway during Najib's speech because the PM was incessantly making political jibes and taking potshots against the opposition.

They have been accused of turning their backs on the rakyat by walking out on the budget speech.

In response, Wan Azizah said her husband, jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, never missed debates on the Supply Bill when he was Finance Minister.

Prime Minister's Department's Special Affairs Department strategic communications director Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz also uploaded on Twitter a doctored photo of the opposition MPs holding placards after the walkout.

The image was doctored so the placards read "Kami Monyet" (We are monkeys), and uploaded next to that of students who held up protest placards during a 1MDB information session organised by Jasa at Universiti Malaya.

"A classic example of monkey sees and monkey does," he tweeted, with the hashtag #Bajet2017.
