PAS snubs Harapan convention

Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad is set to deliver a special lecture at the first Pakatan Harapan Convention this weekend.

However, PAS has declined Harapan's invitation to the convention because of DAP's participation in it.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia demanded Mahathir apologise for undermining the independence of Parliament when he was prime minister.

Mahathir's stalwart Khairuddin Abu Hassan fired back, asking why Pandikar said nothing about the matter when serving under him.

Singapore looking for Jho Low

Mahathir's lawyer Haniff Khatri said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should reopen its case against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s involvement in the 1MDB scandal if it is truly committed against corruption. Najib had denied wrongdoing or taking public funds for personal gain.

Meanwhile, in Singapore, investigators said Penang-born billionaire Jho Low is a "person of interest" in its investigation into money-laundering linked to 1MDB.

A Singapore court also heard that former BSI banker Yeo Jiawei, who is facing a battery of money-laundering charges, received direct information from Jho Low about top Malaysian officials.

Another hospital incident

Another public hospital was hit by a short-circuit incident, this time in Ipoh where a ward at the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun was evacuated.

But Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam described it as an "isolated incident".
