Bersatu sec-gen insists seat negotiations with PAS still on

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh insisted that PAS had agreed to seat negotiations with his party for the next general election.

This was after PAS deputy spiritual leader Ahmad Yakob on Wednesday denied any such deal in response to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin who claimed of warming ties after the Islamist party made overtures for a meeting on seat allocations.

"Muhyiddin's statement was in reference to PAS' agreement for seat negotiations with Bersatu which was decided in the Bersatu-PAS joint-committee meeting on Feb 2.

"Both parties had agreed to hold follow up discussions. Bersatu also notes that the PAS central committee on Feb 17 expressed readiness to continue negotiating with Bersatu," he said in a statement today.

Shahruddin noted that the PAS central committee had also set up a consultative committee to explore cooperation with Bersatu...
