Human Resources Minister Richard Riot Jaem said the cases of workers retrenched by Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) Bhd cannot be referred to the Industrial Court because the company was "no longer in existence."

The National Union of Flight Attendants expressed dismay at the ministry's double standard, pointing out that the cases of workers from other troubled airlines, such as Rayani Air, were allowed to proceed to the Industrial Court.

Shafie Apdal’s brother arrested

Hamid Apdal, brother of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Mohd Shafie Apdal, was arrested by MACC as part of an investigation into the alleged siphoning of funds meant for rural development in Sabah.

Umno Youth information chief Jamawi Jaafar, Tawau Umno Youth chief Ariffin Kassim and Warisan Youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman, who were also arrested over the same case, were each remanded for five days.

Warisan members, who thronged the Sabah court complex, claimed the case was aimed at crippling the party, but said that the arrests of its leaders would instead build more support for Warisan.

Umno turns up heat on Kit Siang and Dr M

Umno leaders Salleh Said Keruak and Abdul Rahman Dahlan insisted that Lim Kit Siang will be made prime minister if Pakatan Harapan wins the coming general election, despite the DAP parliamentary leader's repeated denials of having eyes for the top post.

Annuar Musa, the Umno information chief, lauded Lim for having "tamed" former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman claimed that Mahathir has forgotten Malay etiquette due to being "injected with DAP's blood."

Leaping to Lim's defence, former home minister Zaid Ibrahim said the DAP veteran would make a better prime minister than anyone in Umno.

Going on the offensive, Lim questioned the status of Annuar’s corruption case in relation to his stint as Mara chairperson.
