KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Harapan's rally turnout falls short of target

Pakatan Harapan's anti-kleptocracy rally fell short of its 100,000 participant target. The organisers claimed that 25,000 people turned up while police put the numbers at 4,000 people. Malaysiakini estimated the peak crowd to be 8,000 participants.

During the rally, Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak an enemy of the state.

Sungai Besar Umno chief nixed his plan to set up a fish stall at the rally, claiming that he would likely be arrested if he proceeded with the stunt.

Former Selangor menteri besar Abu Hassan Omar said BN could do without Jamal's antics.

Johor Sultan axes ties with Jakim

Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar decreed for the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) to sever ties with the national Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

This was after Jakim preacher Zamihan Mat Zin purportedly critcised the monarch's stance against Muslim-only laundrettes.

Jakim and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom are seeking an audience with Sultan Ibrahim following the royal rebuke.

Zamihan was released from police detention after the court rejected an application to extend his two-day remand.

Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin voiced support for Sultan Ibrahim's remarks that Malaysia "is not a Taliban country".

Other Kinibites

Selangor senior exco Teng Chang Khim warned that Pakatan Harapan will expose former state menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim's past wrongdoings if he supports BN's efforts to recapture Selangor.

Harapan will not be able to uphold and defend Islam in the country because the opposition coalition is dominated by DAP, claimed Umno information chief Annuar Musa

Looking ahead

Former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim will hold a press conference in Shah Alam. He is expected to announce his position on the 14th general election.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will hold a morning ceramah in Gombak, Selangor.
