Landslide warnings ignored

A worker at the Penang construction site devastated by the landslide in Tanjung Bungah that occurred last Thursday claims that warning signs of the catastrophe were ignored.

Tanjung Bungah assemblyperson Teh Yee Cheu says the authorities ignored three years of protests against hillslope developments.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the contractor of the site would be blacklisted.

The Penang opposition will move a motion in the state legislative assembly to halt all hillslope development projects until a full inquiry report is produced.

Bellew grounds Mahathir

Former Malaysia Airlines (MAS) chief executive officer Peter Bellew said Dr Mahathir Mohamad was "100 percent" wrong to claim that he quit the airline because of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Commenting on MAS' remark that his rejoining Ryanair was unexpected, Bellew said he tendered his resignation on Oct 8.
