SUHAKAM INQUIRY | Police today gave differing testimonies on the recording functions of monitors at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters linked to Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) CCTVs.

Testifying before the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) public hearing into pastor Raymond Koh's disappearance, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat was asked by the Koh family lawyer Jerald Gomez whether police could obtain information from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) on the functionality of its CCTVs .

"I know that images from the cameras can be linked to the control room at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters but I don't know the extent of their functionality," he said.

Asked whether police could make recordings through the link, Fadzil confirmed that this can be done.

"Yes," he said, confirming that footages can be recorded if the particular camera was working.

His confirmation appears to contradict the testimony given by the investigating officer tasked to probe Koh's disappearance, Supari Mohammad.

Supari, earlier today, said that monitors linked to MBPJ's CCTVs at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters can only monitor live feeds.

"It doesn't record but it's live. It can only view, it doesn't record," he reiterated.

Supari, in previous testimonies, had also insisted on this.

Police, he said, would need to make a request with MBPJ to obtain any video recording.

The officer had said on Monday that police were not able to obtain CCTV recordings on the possible routes taken by Koh's abductors as all of the CCTVs were not working.

He, however, clarified his statement the next day and said that he was told that the cameras were "negative" which actually meant that the cameras' footage did not turn up any leads.

The Suhakam hearing, which is chaired by Suhakam commissioner Mah Weng Kwai, will continue at 2.45pm tomorrow.

The inquiry is seeking to establish whether disappearances of Koh, Amri Che Mat and Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth Hilmy, are tantamount to enforced disappearances as defined under International Convention for Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearances (ICPPED).

Other members of the panel are commissioners Aishah Bidin and Nik Salida Suhaila Nik Saleh.
