Yoursay: ‘Just like M’kini is here for us, we’re here for M’kini’

YOURSAY | 'We will always support its non-partisan fight for a fair, free and progressive M'sia.

Why does M’kini need to raise money for legal defence?

Cogito Ergo Sum: You can’t put a value on freedom of the press. We will give what we can whenever it is needed. And if tomorrow you need help, you can be sure the people will chip in again, and again.

Malaysiakini is an institution. It has become a beacon of hope, inspiration, information and a platform for the victims of institutionalised excess. May you thrive and prosper long.

Jack n Jill: Thank you to Malaysiakini’s editor-in-chief Steven Gan and chief executive officer Premesh Chandran for staying the course and providing much-needed leadership.

I read Malaysiakini every day. Malaysiakini has been so much a part of my life and daily routine. I want you to know that I appreciate what you have done to help me stay abreast of the current news in the political scene.

Keep up the good work. We will fight together with you should Malaysiakini face any “difficulties” down the road.

Anonymous_1397613657: Yahoo! Malaysiakini has reached its target (of raising RM350,000). This was the best news I heard on Wednesday morning from my son. I am so glad.

Well done Malaysiakini! Keep it up. We are behind you and will always be there for you. Light over darkness. May justice be restored come GE14.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Dear Steven and Premesh, keep it going. It will never be easy for a country like ours, but we have got to start somewhere and eventually, the efforts will pay off.

The people now realise what independent media can do and how powerful a message it can send to make them begin to think again, which they simply could not before. You have my fullest support.

Lone_Star: Well done Steven and Premesh. Keep the light burning in the present darkness and keep it burning still, even after we eventually see light, hopefully after GE14.

Just like Malaysiakini is here for us, we are here for Malaysiakini. All for one and one for all.

Why?: We will always support your non-partisan fight for a fair, free and progressive Malaysia. A Malaysia where every Malaysian of every race and religion and personal belief has a right under the Malaysian sun.

Clearwater: That is what Malaysiakini is and what we want it to remain - the people's independent voice, free from outside interference and vested interest.

That is so rare in today's world. That is why so many contribute just a little to ensure there is a voice out there.

Suami Ke3: Once I was a brick supporter, now I am lifetime supporter. Malaysiakini is persecuted and threatened because they stood by their two principles - real news and quick news.

Syabas to all Malaysiakinians. Terima kasih.

Anonymous 1058841433936091: Thanks for this well-written and informative article. I appreciate it. You are right. If everyone helps with RM100 or RM50, you will be able to raise the money.

I read Malaysiakini at least four times a day. Thank you for reporting the truth. If you ask for help again, I will do so.

Court dismisses Azmin's bid to declassify 1MDB audit report

Newday: High Court judge Kamaluddin Md Said ruled that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is a stranger to the judicial review application? How can anybody in this country be a “stranger”, when this issue has been everywhere for the past three years.

Even my six-year-old grandchild knows what is going on. Can someone with a legal background please explain the definition of "stranger"?

I do know that 1MDB is “stranger than fiction”. Is that what the judge means?

RedHero: Any taxpayer, which includes the Selangor MB, should have the locus standi to ask for the declassification of the report. This is a strange and warped decision but something we have got used to in Bolehland.

Anonymous #13571680: If I don’t have the locus standi to question issues related to 1MDB, what right has 1MDB to use my tax money to bail itself out?

I can’t understand the grounds of judicial decisions these days. Maybe someone with a legal background should try to explain these issues for the benefit of the public.

Anonymous 2436471476414726: Since Najib said there were only lapses of governance in 1MDB, he should have the auditor-general's report declassified. There is no need for citizens to go to court to seek declassification of the report.

After all, Najib has done no wrong. There is nothing to hide, nothing to fear. Be a good leader for once, Najib, and instruct that the report is declassified.

After ‘botched’ drug raid, MP wants changes to police procedures

Sinner: The police should be required to produce their IDs and allow the person being searched to take pictures of their IDs for recording purposes.

They should also be required to allow the person being searched to call the police station to ascertain if they are really the police.

Anonymous_2679c6e5: Laws should be drawn up to protect the ordinary citizens from wrongful actions by the police. Any raid must be accompanied by a search warrant. What are the exceptional circumstances under this situation that precludes the need for a search warrant?

There should be proper identification for law enforcement officers. Even Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officers in the US wear jackets that identify them to be law enforcement officers when they conduct such raids.

Why should the police stop ordinary citizens from filming the actions unless they (the police) realise that their own actions are unlawful and extreme and they themselves are breaking the law?

Ordinary citizens must have the right to sue the police for wrongful criminal intimidation.
