Selangor Pakatan Harapan election committee head Dr Xavier Jeyakumar (above) has blamed his Amanah counterparts for the "stalling" seat negotiations.

In a statement today, Xavier said the committee has already met four times and during the final meeting, Amanah had requested for a separate meeting to discuss seat negotiations.

"It was agreed that all parties will send their respective representatives for further discussions.

"I stress that at this point, there was actually no need for a new committee to be set up and it is only this request by Amanah that has stalled the negotiations," said Xavier, who is also a PKR vice-president.

He said that Selangor Harapan's election committee has been instructed by the Harapan presidential council to expedite negotiations and thus he hoped that the meeting would be convened soon.

He also urged Selangor Amanah to close ranks and not air dirty linen in public.

"It's very unbecoming of Amanah to drag this into the open and create discord when there actually is none.

"Please let us put our heads together and get the job done. Our main goal is to defend Selangor (Harapan) at all costs," he said.

Checks with all four Selangor Harapan parties, however, revealed that they have a different understanding of the committee's function.

Amanah, Bersatu and DAP leaders have told Malaysiakini that the committee's mandate was to discuss strategy while PKR leaders said that seat negotiation was part of the discussion.

It is understood that the heart of the problem was the division of 20 seats which were previously contested by PAS under the Pakatan Rakyat banner.

The situation came to a head today with Selangor PKR leader Mohamad Azmin Ali claiming that Amanah was lying about the status of seat negotiations.

This led to Selangor Amanah leader Izham Hashim (above) calling Azmin a "joker" and reiterating that seat negotiations have yet to take place.
