Wan Azizah heads to Pandan; Harapan holiday after the polls?

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Wan Azizah heads to Pandan

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will contest the Pandan parliamentary seat in the 14th general election, while her daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar moves to Permatang Pauh.

Blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, said he was mulling to contest in Pandan to teach Wan Azizah and her family "a lesson".

Nurul Izzah was told by Umno to be prepared for a shock after its Permatang Pauh division chief Zaidi Mohd Said was announced as the BN candidate for the constituency.

Wan Azizah dismissed the existence of warring factions within PKR, saying there is only one camp in the party – hers.

Commenting on the axing of certain incumbent party representatives, she said it was a normal occurrence in politics.

Harapan holiday after the polls?

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that May 10 and 11 will be declared public holidays if the coalition emerges victorious in GE14.

Kedah BN announced that incumbent Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad will defend his seat against Mahathir, who will be contesting there in the GE14.

The 57-year-old Nawawi said the nonagenarian Mahathir would face physical limitations when working the ground during the campaign period.

Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak also took a swipe at Mahathir, reciting a poem to laud the loyalty of his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

In response, former minister Zainuddin Maidin slammed Najib in a tweet, saying that the latter only managed to become prime minister because he was not loyal to Abdullah.

Other Kinibites

Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, the main contractor in the controversial Penang undersea tunnel, said it would sue parties that spread "fake news" about the firm or the project.

Celebrity Azwan Ali will contest as an independent in Bukit Antarabangsa, using the logo of an elephant in the hope of trampling his brother and incumbent assemblyperson Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Caretaker defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the Armed Forces will be assisting the police to track down two suspects who recently gunned down Palestinian lecturer Fadi Mohammed al-Batsh.

BN dropped MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan as a candidate in GE14, but retained former second finance minister Husni Hanadzlah as the candidate for Tambun.

Looking ahead
