PKR POLLS | Dr Afif Bahardin and Muhammad Hilman Idham have offered themselves as PKR national Youth chief and deputy respectively for the coming party elections.

In a statement today, the two candidates said they have begun discussions with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and other party leaders as well as comrades in Permatang Pauh and Gombak.

"We have also spoken to the PKR youth grassroots to develop a strong partnership," said the duo.

Afif, the incumbent PKR national deputy chief, expressed hope that with the support of the youth members, a new team would be able to develop a "strong and progressive" youth wing.

"The younger generation played a big role in the 14th general elections to change the political landscape of the country so that the reformasi agenda can be realised," the Seberang Jaya assemblyperson said.

"Their fresh and dynamic ideas and a progressive movement have successfully brought change to Malaysia," added Afif, who is also a Penang state executive councillor.

Afif and Hilman, the Gombak Setia assemblyperson, are set to square off against Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir and Sabah Harapan Youth chief Raymond Ahuar respectively.

Akmal and Raymond have voiced support for Anwar Ibrahim as president and Rafizi Ramli as PKR deputy president while the Afif-Hilman team support the Anwar-Azmin combination.

Azmin, the economic affairs minister, is the outgoing PKR deputy president. He has yet to announce his plan for the party leadership elections, which will be held at the end of this month.
