First salvo fired at Fuziah hours after PKR nominations

Just hours after the close of nominations for the PKR party election, the first salvo has been fired at Wanita PKR chief candidate Fuziah Salleh.

Selangor Srikandi PKR chief Nurainie Haziqah Shafii described Fuziah's campaign platform as being unhealthy for Wanita PKR, following the latter claiming that the women's wing did not dare question the party's central leadership.

"I feel Fuziah's objective of vying for the Wanita chief position, based on the principle of wanting to do away with a 'yes-man' culture that does not exist, is unhealthy for the development of Wanita PKR," she said in a statement.

According to Nurainie, the claim that the women's wing does not dare to reprimand the central leadership was baseless.

"Wanita PKR under the leadership of Zuraida Kamaruddin had prioritised the agenda of empowering women.

"Wanita PKR had also issued statements that did not sit well or is not well accepted by a number of party leaders. However, the focus is to champion women's issues and interests," she said.

Incumbent Wanita PKR chief Zuraida is running for vice-president in this party election.

Fuziah, who has declared herself as being aligned with Rafizi Ramli, will face off against Haniza Talha, Zuraida's chosen successor to head the women's wing.

Rafizi is vying for the position of PKR deputy president against incumbent Azmin Ali.

Zuraida is a long-time ally of Azmin.

Meanwhile, Sementa assemblyperson Daroyah Alwi, who is vying for the Wanita deputy president position, also took aim at Fuziah.

"Fuziah should not issue such a statement which is intended to belittle the role of the women's wing under Zuraida's leadership," she said in a separate statement.

Daroyah stressed that Zuraida had contributed much to women empowerment.
