PKR lawmaker William Leong is prepared to vacate the Selayang seat in order for Anwar Ibrahim to return to Parliament.

“I am prepared to do so,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.

This follows Anwar's wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and daughter Nurul Izzah stating the they would not relinquish their respective Pandan and Permatang Pauh parliamentary seats.

Anwar is seeking to return to Parliament after being disqualified from Permatang Pauh following his 2015 conviction for sodomy.

On May 16, the Pakatan Harapan de facto leader was released from prison after being granted a pardon by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.

Meanwhile, Leong claimed that all 50 PKR parliamentarians would be willing to step aside for Anwar if requested to do so.

“If I am requested to do so, I would.

“I believe all 50 PKR MPs would do the same if asked. None would not want to give way for Anwar,” he added.

However, Leong said there have been no discussions on this matter within the party as yet.

When stumping for Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni in the Sungai Kandis by-election last week, Anwar had hinted at his return to Parliament.

The 70-year-old politician, who maintains that he was imprisoned based on false charges, is slated to succeed Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad when the latter steps down.

Prior to the May 9 general election, Harapan said Mahathir would helm the nation for two years before passing the baton to Anwar.

However, Mahathir has since indicated that he might stay on longer.
