After missing two days of the Kelantan legislative assembly, Mustapa Mohamed finally made an appearance today, making him the first Pakatan Harapan representative in the state.

This came after the Air Lanas assemblyperson, who was Umno supreme council member until his shocking resignation in September, joined Harapan component party Bersatu last Friday.

Upon his arrival this morning, the former minister was seen waving at members of the press.

It was reported that Mustapa, who is also Jeli MP, missed the first two days of the recent sitting due to urgent matters in Kuala Lumpur and a health check.

Despite wresting federal power, Harapan had failed to win any state seats in the 14th general election last May.

With Mustapa's entrance into Bersatu, the Kelantan legislative assembly now sees 37 seats occupied by PAS, seven by BN and one by Bersatu.

The 40-year Umno veteran, who had been elected to the party supreme council with the highest number of votes during the party election in June, had expressed his disappointment with the party, saying it was "no longer in line" with his political principles and that it needed to be inclusive and moderate.

Upon announcing his recruitment into Bersatu, Mustapa had stated that he agreed with Prime Minister and Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s commitment to “integrity and transparency”.

His resignation was followed by that of Kimanis MP and fellow Umno supreme council member Anifah Aman less than 24 hours later.

Besides the duo, Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, and Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali have also left the party.
