Report lodged against Subang Jaya police chief over temple fracas

A MIC Youth leader has filed a police report against Subang Jaya district police chief Muhammad Azlin Sadari over the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple this morning.

In the report lodged with the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam, K Arivind accused Muhammad of not being efficient and lopsided with regard to handling the incursion into the temple grounds.

“MIC Youth views this seriously and is disappointed with the police's action, especially the Subang Jaya district police,” he told Malaysiakini.

Arivind said Muhammad's statement on Facebook that the clash involved two groups of ethnic Indians over the temple's relocation was inaccurate.

“The statement was made in haste and is lopsided. What was he trying to hide?” he asked.

According to Arvind, MIC Youth learned that some “200 gangsters were hired” to cause a disturbance at the temple.

He claimed that the group was made up of other races, including Indonesians.

“The Subang Jaya police chief should have investigated why there were 200 non-Indians near the temple in the wee hours of the morning.

“Is it not the responsibility of the police chief to investigate this? (To check if it) was an attempt to create discord,” he added.

The MIC Youth committee member also claimed that the police arrived late at the scene based on information gathered from the public.

“This shows the Subang Jaya police chief failed to perform his duties to safeguard peace. Therefore, MIC Youth wants Muhammad and the district police's special branch chief investigated,” he added.

For the record, Azlin has been transferred to Bukit Aman’s Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department. According to a press release issued by the police headquarters on Oct 26, the transfer order came into effect today.

This afternoon, four ministers and a deputy minister chided the Subang Jaya police for issuing an alleged false claim over the incident.

"The statement was false and irresponsible.

“It has created much tension amongst the Indian community, especially in light of the late and ineffective response by the Subang Jaya police," Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P Waythamoorthy read a joint statement.
