Najib arrested over 1MDB audit 'tampering'

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has been arrested by the MACC over the alleged tampering of the 1MDB audit report, according to sources.
The highly placed sources told Malaysiakini that Najib was nabbed after arriving at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya for questioning at 11am today.
As of the time of writing, Najib is still under MACC custody, but sources said he will be released on bail later in the day.
"As we speak, Najib is having his cautioned statement recorded by investigators.
"However, he will be released later on bail," said a high ranking MACC official, who declined to be named.
Najib was arrested under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which stipulates offences of abusing power for gratification.

Sources also said they expect Najib to be hauled to court on Wednesday to face charges related to the alleged report tampering, together with former 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy.
Another source said that Arul Kanda will also be arrested by investigators.
It is learnt that Najib was released at 1.20pm after investigators finished recording his statement.
It was reported last week that the MACC was expected to haul both Najib and Arul Kanda to court over the alleged tampering of National Audit Department's report on 1MDB.
This came after investigators questioned Arul over the allegation which surfaced following an allegation by auditor-general Madinah Mohamad that Najib and several others had tampered with the government document.
This allegedly included an order from Najib's private secretary to delete a paragraph mentioning the presence of controversial fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, at a meeting with Najib to discuss the report.
