Four puppies among six dogs killed, believed poisoned

Owner Alex Chandran, 38, said his sister initially did not suspect anything and gave the female dog some water before leaving the house to pick up her children from school.
"At about 1.30pm, when she returned home, she noticed that another dog of mine was also in a very weak state.
"This was when she suspected that something must have happened to the dogs. I rushed home upon hearing of the incident.
"And then in front of my own eyes, one by one, the two dogs and four puppies died," he told Malaysiakini today.
The adult dogs, both female, were aged four years while the puppies, which were the offspring of one of the female dogs, were about two months old.
Chandran said he suspected the dogs could have been poisoned as they later found traces of food waste in the compound that were not similar to what they had fed the pets the night before.
Post-mortem
He said he only fed the dogs some dhall (split pulses gravy) and eggs on Wednesday night. The food residue they found included some chicken bones and crab shells among others.
Chandran declined to speculate if anyone had poisoned the dogs.
"I leave the matter to the authorities. It is now being investigated by the Veterinary Services Department.
"I had lodged a report with them yesterday and they immediately came to my house to conduct an investigation.
"They took all the samples they needed plus the remains of my dogs for post-mortem," said Chandran adding that he was informed that the department had also lodged a police report on the incident.
