KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Manogaran drops 'kuih' analogy in Cameron

M Manogaran said BN’s possible pick of Orang Asli candidate Ramli Mohd Nor for the Cameron Highlands by-election may backfire, as locals would not "even buy kuih” from the community.

The Pakatan Harapan candidate later clarified that he was merely citing the perception on the ground, stressing that does not endorse such views.

Ramli, a former senior police officer, said it is up to acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan to decide on his candidacy.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said that his party is ready to take on any challenger in Cameron Highlands, including Umno.

Election Commission chief Azhar Azizan Harun issued a stern warning to all parties participating in the polls to refrain from vote-buying – including by holding banquets, handing out gifts or using government machinery.

Three arrested over royal insults

Police arrested three people under the Sedition Act 1948 for allegedly insulting Sultan Muhammad V over his resignation as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Lawyer Syahredzan Johan and Subang DAP Youth chief Farhan Haziq Mohamed said the Sedition Act should not have been used to detain the trio.

The Mediviron Group of Clinics confirmed the resignation of one of its doctors following the outcry over his allegedly offensive remarks against the former king.

A spokesperson from the Prime Minister's Office said the installation of the next Agong would not be discussed during Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s audience with Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

The Pahang palace is expected to discuss the ascension of regent Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to pave the way for him to become the next Agong.
