Gov’t to make announcement on tolls 'in a day or two'
The government will be making an important announcement on toll collection very soon, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said last night.
“We just discussed this in cabinet… maybe in a day or two a statement on tolls will be announced by the minister concerned,” he said at a ceramah in conjunction with the Semenyih by-election last night.
However, Muhyiddin declined to reveal any further details on the announcement.
He said this when touching on Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto for the 14th general election, which pledged to find ways to reduce highway toll rates and if possible, abolish them altogether.
Harapan emerged victorious in GE14, ending over 60 years of BN rule.
Among the more than 150 who attended the ceramah were Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Aha. More SOON from Harapan. But let’s look at the concept of tolls. Point 1. Someone has to pay for the construction and maintenance of the major road system. The most equable way to do that is via tolls. The alternative is to impose a levy on all vehicles, but then those who don’t use major tollways have to subsidise those who do. Point 2. The nonsensical suggestion to eliminate tolls was a DAP idea ( hardly an initiative) to pander to the miserly Chinese who think they should have everything for free. Do remember what happened to that other Chinese bait the GST. 3. I get the impression that the contracts with the highway concessionaires are non negotiable. 4. So where does this idiot Muhyiddin (who is NOT the Minister for Transport, but who is Mahathir’s buddy) think he can find space to negotiate tolls 5. SUMMARY: This is just another hoax designed to fool the gullible into thinking Harapan has something to offer

Muyhiddin making ‘announcement’ not pertaining to his portfolio. That’s what he is good at n not forgetting his Malay first declaration. If you cannot keep up with the progressive n aggressive political scene, give way to a more suitable person.
