Nazri Abdul Aziz insists that he will make an appearance at the upcoming BN supreme council meeting, despite MCA and MIC hinting that they would not show up if he does.

The BN secretary-general also urged the two parties to join the meeting.

“Please don’t do that (boycott the meeting). Come and I will come too.

"I have no issues meeting them, so I will come," he told reporters today when met outside the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The Umno lawmaker was asked to comment on MIC and MCA's joint statement earlier today disputing his status as BN secretary-general.

According to the two parties, Nazri's appointment was neither discussed nor consented to by the BN supreme council, and hence he has no locus standi to issue statements as the secretary-general of the coalition.

“Both the parties have clearly stated to the BN secretariat that Nazri has no right to attend the BN supreme council meeting scheduled this Friday.

"If Nazri is still adamant and attends the meeting, then the validity of the meeting will be called into question.

“To avoid any legal disputes, MCA and MIC will only attend a legitimate BN supreme council meeting,” they said.

Acting BN chairperson Mohamad Hasan had called for the meeting on Friday following MCA and MIC announcing that they would “move on to explore a new alliance."

The two parties said the move was prompted by Umno's continued silence on its leaders' racial remarks.

Specifically, they singled out statements made by Nazri during the by-election campaign for Semenyih.
