Dr M looking into Women's March controversy, says Syed Saddiq

The cabinet had discussed the recent Women's March whose organisers are being investigated under the Sedition Act, said Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
"In the last cabinet meeting, we discussed the Women's March, you know, some of them (organisers) might be charged under the Sedition Act," he told reporters when attending the Asia GT Festival 2019 opening ceremony at Sepang International Circuit today.
"After the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) mentioned he will look into it," he said.
Syed Saddiq said he personally disagreed with the police for investigating the organisers of the event under the Sedition Act 1948.
On March 9, several women groups organised the march in conjunction with International Women's Day.
The presence of LGBT participants at the march sparked off strident criticisms from both sides of the political divide.
On another matter, Syed Saddiq reiterated Pakatan Harapan's stand on upholding freedom of speech when asked about the arrest of outspoken former DAP member Jufazli Shi Ahmad for allegedly insulting the prime minister.
The Harapan Youth chief, however, said that he has to know on what grounds Jufazli was arrested and whether the insult was personal.
Non-fiduciary matters
Yesterday, Jufazli live-streamed his arrest and in a video shared on social media, he hurled all sorts of allegations against the prime minister, including corruption and abuse of power.
“I distinctly remember post-GE14, one person was hauled up for insulting Tun (Mahathir) and it was the prime minister himself who called for his release," said Syed Saddiq, who is also Muar MP.
Mahathir always chose to move on from various insults thrown at him, added Syed Saddiq.
On another matter, he said Harapan should fulfil its election manifesto, especially on non-fiduciary matters.
He was asked for his opinion on Pakatan Harapan's insistence that Ronald Kiandee should continue as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson despite leaving Umno and joining Bersatu on Friday.
"Ronald just joined us last week. We haven't had the chance to discuss this," Syed Saddiq said.
"What is most important is we must fulfil the commitments we have made, especially on non-fiduciary matters because they are not related to money," he said.
Harapan had pledged in its election manifesto that the PAC would be headed by the opposition.
Harapan leaders Hannah Yeoh and Nurul Izzah Anwar have been pushing for the opposition to remain at the helm of the PAC.
