Man wearing 'Commissioner of Police' vest arrested

A man was arrested after he was found wearing a 'Commissioner of Police' vest while attending a religious programme in Taman Wahyu, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim (photo, above) said the man was detained at the Jinjang Police Station about 12.30am yesterday.

"The man was arrested for possessing police equipment and gear, namely a green vest containing the words Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Community Police Association (PKKKLS) on it as well as a pair of CP (Commissioner of Police) rank badge stitched on the shirt.

"The investigation found that the police rank badge was ordered from a tailor in Gombak," Mazlan said in a statement.

He added that police were also investigating other individuals present at the event.

The case is being investigated under Section 16 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 89 of the Police Act 1967 for possession, manufacture, sale or illegal supply of equipment provided to police officers and the use of police uniforms without permission.

"We take this matter seriously, and will not hesitate to take stern action to avoid impersonation activities which would cause confusion among the public.

"Members of the public who have any information relating to the case can channel it to the Kuala Lumpur police via the hotline at 03-2115 9999 or by contacting the nearest police station," Mazlan said.

Several pictures of a man wearing a security vest with a CP rank stitched on it went viral on social media, raising concerns among netizens.
