Yusoff Rawther undergoes four-hour polygraph test

Muhammed Yusoff Rawther underwent a four-hour polygraph test today as part of the police’s investigation into his sexual misconduct allegations against PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

A polygraph machine is often used to detect if a person is being truthful or otherwise.

Dressed in a red short-sleeved top and jeans, Yusoff arrived at federal police headquarters, Bukit Aman at 2:50pm in a black Mercedes Benz along with his lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla.

Emerging at about 8:30pm, Haniff said his client was “beyond satisfied” with the test but declined to reveal any results or questions directed at Yusoff.

He said the test had begun at 4:30pm.

“The details are with the experts who conducted the test, and I believe a copy of the test results will be given to the authorities who are conducting the probe.

“If you want any additional information, you can get it from the police if they are willing to share it.

“The reason Yusoff showed up today was to offer his cooperation and commitment so that the police can conduct a thorough investigation. This polygraph test is something Yusoff wanted to do so that the honesty and sincerity of his allegation could be determined,” said the lawyer when door stopped by the media outside the station.

Haniff shared that he was not allowed in the room where Yusoff was examined by three experts.

Asked if Anwar was slated for a polygraph test next, he said this was up to the authorities and Yusoff himself.

“This is up to two parties. The authorities need to decide if they need to summon another person for this test and the second party is us. At this stage, Yusoff and I will reserve our comments,” he said.

His client was prepared to cooperate should the police need to conduct more tests, he added.

Yusoff lodged a police report on Dec 7 pressing for action after unveiling a statutory declaration that he made about Anwar.

In the declaration, the 26-year-old claimed he had been a victim of molest, indecent exposure and indecent proposals by Anwar at the latter’s Segambut home more than a year ago on Oct 2, 2018.

Anwar denied the allegations.

The police are now probing the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which concerns assault or the use of criminal force with the intent to outrage someone’s modesty.

Yusoff was previously questioned twice before he was asked to take a polygraph test today.

Police have since recorded statements from a total of eight witnesses.

Anwar has been questioned, and the police have visited his Segambut residence as part of the probe.
